Koh Samui

Koh Samui

Koh Samui is located in the Gulf of Thailand. It's approximately 700 kilometres southeast of Bangkok and is the Kingdom's third largest island after Phuket and Koh Chang. Samui covers an area of 247 sq km, being 25 kilometres at its longest point and 21 kilometres at its widest.

The island is also known as "Coconut Island" as it harvests over two million coconuts each month. Samui first developed a reputation as a remote backpacker's retreat, where only the most adventurous travelers dared to go. But word of Samui's legendary natural beauty spread quickly. The friendly people, small island feel, and totally relaxing environment encouraged more visitors. When the airport opened in 1989 Samui suddenly attracted visitors from many parts of the globe. The island's growth since then has been extraordinary, and Samui is now regarded as one of the top luxury destinations in the world.

With the arrival of modern hotels, resorts and shopping centres, almost all traces of the island's backpacker history have been erased, and yet the famed ambience and unique atmosphere have miraculously survived all the development. Modern facilities and infrastructure provide everything a tourist need, without encroaching on the natural beauty and tropical ambiance of the island. Samui is a beautiful tropical island with picture-perfect white sandy beaches and lush tropical forests that cover the mountains. It's a truly idyllic location with something to please everyone. Samui has now become the must-visit island for travelers to Thailand, and has direct flights from Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Chiang Mai, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong.
